It was written; “Christmas comes but once a year”
but obviously they had never been to the G & L Christmas and Gift Barn in Windham, Connecticut.
Since 1979 Christmas has been a daily obsession and a year round passion for the Bergeron-Reid family that operates the vast wonderland. G & L, which looks deceivingly small from the road, houses 10,000 square feet of fine gifts and collectibles organized into 14 distinct and elaborately decorated rooms. While the shop offers gifts for all occasions, more than 4000 Christmas
ornaments and huge selection of collectibles, have put G & L on the map. Visitors love that
G & L is forever changing their displays and always evolving.
In 2007 G & L decided to change the name of the shop to G & L Country Barn and Christmas Shop, There new theme chosen was G & L has gone Country. To distinguish them from other shops, G & L focuses on high quality & unique country merchandise. Owner Gene Bergeron is a fine craftsman and creates quality primitive furniture plus offers a wide variety of primitive decor.
G & L is known for having one of the world’s largest Department 56 village displays, housing over 1800 lit porcelain village pieces. This display brings bus tours and on lookers by the thousands. The village room hosts a model train that chugs across a bridge, a barge in the canal, skiers perched on the slopes, and a busy Main Street where village folks visit the local pub or general store. You feel as though you could climb in and be part of it all.
